Report reports that Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov made the remarks at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku.
According to him, the region is currently undergoing a period of significant transformation. The Deputy Minister noted that, for the first time in its history, Azerbaijan participated in the C5+ format as a special guest and a member of the Advisory Council at a meeting of the energy ministers of Central Asian countries. He said this effectively means that the format has expanded to the C6 level.
Zeynalov said that, within this framework, energy links, various projects, cross-border transmission initiatives and opportunities for cooperation with Central Asian countries could be considered. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is establishing a new energy connection with Central Asia for the first time in its history. This refers to the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor. The Deputy Minister noted that even during the Soviet era, there had been no such connection between the energy systems of Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
According to Zeynalov, the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor could also give fresh impetus to other projects that have long been awaiting implementation. He cited potential transit from Kazakhstan as an example and said that work on this issue is continuing at the consortium level.
The Deputy Minister added that the potential transit of Turkmenistan’s “green energy” resources could also become part of this process. In his view, the electricity transmission project could create new opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Central Asia.
