Kazakhstan is working with the European Commission (EC) on the inclusion of the Trans‑Caspian "green" energy corridor project in the list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI), Report informs, citing the country's Ministry of Energy in response to a query from Report's Kazakhstan bureau.
"The project on the development and transmission of 'green' energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan serves as an important initiative for trilateral energy cooperation. A feasibility study is currently being prepared and is scheduled to be completed by January 2027," the ministry stated.
It was also noted that work is under way to promote the project at the international level.
"To strengthen institutional support, the Kazakh side has taken the initiative to engage with the European Commission on the issue of including the project in the list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI)," the ministry added.
Italy's leading international consulting company CESI has been appointed as the consultant for the preparation of the Feasibility Study (FS). Based on the results of the FS, the project's financial model and key technical parameters will be determined.
The cost of preparing the FS is approximately €1 million, with financing provided through grant funds from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
It should be recalled that Azerenerji OJSC, KEGOC, and Uzbekistan's National Electric Networks signed a document on 1 June 2025 on the creation of "Green Corridor Alliance" LLC for the implementation of the "Central Asia – Azerbaijan Trans‑Caspian Green Energy Corridor" project
