JUNE 22, 2026

Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have held talks in Ashgabat, Report informs, citing the portal Orient.tm.

It was reported that the parties signed a package of documents aimed at developing cooperation in the oil and gas sector and other areas.

Berdimuhamedov noted that Malaysia's Petronas has invested approximately $12 billion in Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry during its years of operation in the country. According to him, cooperation with the company has enabled the implementation of a number of large-scale projects on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.

The Malaysian leader, in turn, noted that Kuala Lumpur aims to diversify its relations with Turkmenistan.

"The focus of future economic cooperation will be on high-tech projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, scientific research, digitalisation, and semiconductor production. Malaysia also has advanced experience in these areas," he said.
