Azerbaijan has a commercial potential of approximately 38 gigawatts in the offshore wind energy sector, Report informs, citing Elchin Targuliyev, Director of the Technologies and Innovations Department at SOCAR Green, speaking during a panel discussion held within the Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition in Baku.
“In the medium and long term, offshore wind energy holds enormous potential. Azerbaijan is among the world leaders in offshore wind energy potential. The country has 157 GW of technical potential and approximately 38 GW of commercial potential.
At the same time, I would like to note that our country also has significant opportunities in bioenergy and geothermal energy. However, these technologies are less commercially attractive and are currently mainly at the research stage. For this reason, the development of these directions is progressing more slowly compared to solar and wind solutions, for which demand is much higher,” Targuliyev said.
