Approximately 556 million tonnes of Azerbaijani‑origin oil have been transported through the Baku‑Tbilisi‑Ceyhan (BTC) oil export pipeline since it became operational, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Energy.
It has been 21 years since the commissioning of the Azerbaijani section of the BTC oil pipeline.
In January–April of this year, Azerbaijan transported 8,389,500 tonnes of oil through the BTC pipeline. This is 9.9% lower than the figure for the first four months of 2025.
During this period, oil produced in Azerbaijan accounted for 82.4% (6,914,700 tonnes) of the volume shipped via BTC, while oil received from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan made up the remaining 17.6% (1,475,200 tonnes). Compared to the same period of the previous year, Azerbaijani oil shipped via BTC decreased by 10.6%, while oil from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan fell by 6.8%.
Currently, the BTC pipeline mainly transports oil produced from the Azeri‑Chirag‑Gunashli (ACG) field block in Azerbaijan, as well as condensate from the Shah Deniz field. In addition, other crude oil and condensate volumes, including oil from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, are also shipped via BTC.
The ownership stakes in ACG are: BP (30.37%), SOCAR (31.65%), MOL Group (9.57%), INPEX (9.31%), ExxonMobil (6.79%), TPAO (5.73%), ITOCHU (3.65%), and ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) (2.92%).
