The Pan-Asian Power Grid Initiative (PAGI) will enable the creation of up to 20 GW of renewable energy capacity in the Asia-Pacific region, said Inmin Yan, ADB Vice-President for South, Central, and West Asia, during a seminar on regional connectivity held as part of the 59th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors in Samarkand, Report informs.
According to him, up to $50 billion is expected to be mobilized by 2035 for the development of cross-border energy infrastructure under PAGI. This includes the construction of power transmission lines, substations, energy storage systems, as well as the digitalization of power grids.
The initiative also covers generation projects, including green energy exports, the establishment of regional energy trading hubs, and hybrid facilities that combine electricity generation with storage.
Inmin Yan noted that ADB aims to ensure the cross-border integration of approximately 20 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2035. In addition, a $10 million technical assistance program will be launched to support policy dialogue and the development of standards.
He emphasized the global need for the rapid growth of renewable energy sources, the strengthening of energy security, and the enhancement of energy system resilience.
