APRIL 29, 2026

Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of the Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), attended the 23rd annual conference and general meeting of the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA), held on April 27–28 in Bratislava, Slovakia. According to information provided by AERA to Renewables, this year's event also marked ERRA's 25th anniversary.

The conference brought together over 300 delegates from 49 countries, including heads of energy regulatory bodies, investors, leading experts, and researchers – representing 124 regulatory institutions, companies, and organizations.

The main theme of the conference was the transformation of energy policy and the adaptation of regulatory activities. Important issues related to both electricity and gas supply were analyzed during the event.

Samir Akhundov chaired a session titled "Transformation of Transmission and Distribution Networks." The session covered topics such as infrastructure investments (including cross-border projects), smart grids and digitalization, electricity tariffs, and the regulation of incentive mechanisms.

Discussions were held across six sessions on the following issues: transformation of electricity generation and storage; regulation of the gas sector against the backdrop of the geopolitical situation in Europe; gas sales and transmission in Central Europe; regulation of nuclear energy; transformation of transmission and distribution networks; retail supply and consumer interaction; and the liberalization and governance of regulatory activities.

ERRA was established on December 11, 2000, in Bucharest. It currently unites 48 regulatory bodies from 44 countries, serving as a platform for knowledge and experience exchange in the field of energy regulation. AERA has cooperated with this international organization since its early activities and was accepted as an associate member in April 2018.
