Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ratified the law approving a trilateral agreement on green energy with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The deal was signed in Baku on November 13, 2024, by the three heads of state. The document focuses on strategic partnership in clean energy, energy efficiency, joint production and trade of environmentally friendly hydrogen and ammonia, as well as reliable cross-border transmission of renewable electricity. The parties have agreed to develop infrastructure for energy exports, including to Europe, and to explore connecting to a Black Sea submarine power cable. A Steering Committee will meet at least twice a year, and a working group will prepare annual cooperation plans. Confidentiality provisions and dispute resolution mechanisms through consultations are also established.
