Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister, Parviz Shahbazov, held a meeting with Giovanni Cristofoli, bp’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye.
The talks focused on the current status of projects being implemented under the strategic partnership with bp, as well as future cooperation opportunities in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors. In this context, the parties reviewed efforts to maintain stable production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, the adoption of new technologies, and improvements in operational efficiency.
Updates were also provided on activities at the Shah Deniz field, the progress of the Shah Deniz Compression project, and the achievement of first gas from the associated gas processing project at ACG. The discussion also covered the development of the Shafag-Asiman, Garabagh, and Babek fields, with an assessment of their future potential. It was noted that these projects will significantly boost the country’s natural gas export capacity.
The meeting also addressed progress in electrifying oil and gas platforms and the Sangachal terminal, as well as ongoing work toward commissioning the Shafag Solar Power Plant in 2027.
During the talks, both sides emphasized the priority of energy security given the current situation in global energy markets, and stressed the importance of diversifying energy sources, supply routes, and delivery methods. It was highlighted that while renewable energy is rapidly developing, hydrocarbons still dominate global energy consumption and will continue to play a significant role in the future. Azerbaijan, it was noted, consistently pursues a policy of diversification across oil, gas, electricity, and renewable energy.
The parties underscored the need to continue joint efforts to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen regional energy security, and further solidify Azerbaijan’s position as an international energy hub.
