The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is ready to support new renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan

APRIL 14, 2026

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) states that it is ready to support the implementation of renewable energy (RES) projects in Azerbaijan.

These remarks were made by Sunniya Durrani-Jamal, Head of the ADB Office in Azerbaijan, during a briefing dedicated to the April edition of the Asian Development Outlook (ADO), in response to a question from “Report”.

According to her, European countries are highly interested in reducing their dependence on hydrocarbons. For this reason, attention to renewable energy sources is increasing. Azerbaijan is also making significant investments in the development of solar energy. ADB has already invested in three major projects jointly with the Ministry of Energy through its private sector operations.

In addition, opportunities to participate in the development of wind energy are being considered from the perspective of future energy security, and this area has substantial potential. Overall, the country’s combination of traditional energy resources and abundant renewable energy potential provides a solid basis for a positive outlook. In this regard, Azerbaijan holds a favorable position in terms of Europe’s energy security. However, it is noted that further investment will be required for the development of this sector, and ADB stands ready to support the government in this process.
