The first hybrid meeting of the Joint Working Group on Energy Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia took place at the Ministry of Energy.
The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov and Sonya Vlahović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia. From the Azerbaijani side, representatives of SOCAR, the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources, the Energy Regulatory Agency, and “Azəristiliktəchizat” OJSC participated. From the Serbian side, representatives of the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the “Srbijagas” company were present.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov highly appreciated the rapidly developing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly in the energy sector. He emphasized that the meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council, held on February 15, 2026, in Belgrade under the co-chairmanship of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Serbia, made a significant contribution to further expanding these relations.
Sonya Vlahović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia, noted that thanks to the signed memorandums and agreements, cooperation between the two countries has been elevated to a strategic level.
Within the framework of the meeting, detailed discussions were held on directions such as the oil and gas sector, energy infrastructure, electricity generation, and energy efficiency. Special emphasis was placed on the important role that Azerbaijan’s gas supplies to Serbia play in strengthening both Serbia’s and Europe’s energy security.
An exchange of views also took place regarding a joint project for the construction of a gas-fired power plant in the city of Niš in Serbia, as well as cooperation opportunities in the fields of heat supply, green energy, and energy efficiency.
The meeting is of significant importance in terms of transitioning energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia to a practical phase and implementing new projects.
