The President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovshan Najaf, has been on a working visit to Abidjan, the capital of Côte d’Ivoire.

According to information provided by Trend citing SOCAR, during the visit, a delegation consisting of representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SOCAR held a series of meetings with high-level officials from Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the energy sector. From the Azerbaijani side, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev and accompanying staff participated in the meetings.

Discussions with the leadership of Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, the Directorate General for Hydrocarbons under the Ministry, and the national oil company “PetroCI” covered in detail the prospects for developing energy cooperation between the two countries, potential joint projects in the oil and gas sector, investment opportunities, and energy security issues.

Particular attention was focused on the possibility of SOCAR acquiring a 10% stake in the development project of Côte d’Ivoire’s “Baleine” oil and gas field. The meetings featured an extensive exchange of views on the project’s development phases, production potential, logistics infrastructure, and commercial aspects.

It was noted that the project holds strategic importance in terms of expanding SOCAR’s geographical footprint in Africa and further strengthening the company’s positions in international energy markets.
