In Baku, simultaneously with the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council, an Azerbaijan–European Union roundtable on the topic “Investment in Green Connections” was organized. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.
From the Azerbaijani side, the event was attended by Deputy Ministers of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov and Elnur Soltanov. From the European Union side, participants included Kristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of the Energy Platform and International Relations Group at the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) of the European Commission, and Adrien Király, Director for the Eastern Neighbourhood and Türkiye at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).
The roundtable extensively discussed cooperation opportunities in the areas of energy interconnections, transmission networks, renewable energy projects, modernization of electricity grids, energy efficiency, and energy storage systems. Particular attention was given to a detailed analysis of the existing investment potential in Azerbaijan in these directions and the European Union’s financial and technical support mechanisms.
Participants evaluated new partnership opportunities between Azerbaijani and EU business circles, as well as mechanisms for financing joint projects and technology transfer.
The roundtable was attended by representatives of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources, the Energy Regulatory Agency, “Green Energy Corridor Energy Company” (GECO Power Company), “Green Corridor Alliance,” “SOCAR Green,” “Azerenergy” OJSC, “Siemens Energy,” “TotalEnergies,” “Nobel Energy,” “Azerbaijan Green Energy Company,” “ACWA Power,” “Masdar,” ENERCON, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce.
This initiative holds significant importance for the closer integration of Azerbaijan’s “green energy” export and regional energy connectivity strategy with the European Union.
