Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held a meeting with Vladanka Andreyeva, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, on the occasion of the completion of Vladanka Andreyeva's diplomatic mission in our country, Azerbaijan-UN relations were extensively discussed, with particular focus on cooperation in the fields of energy and sustainable development. It was emphasized that joint activities on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are among the priority directions of the ministry.
Azerbaijan's initiatives related to hosting COP29, its consistent policy in the green energy transition, and its leading position in global climate processes were highlighted. In particular, the new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document presented at COP30, which targets a 40% reduction in emissions by 2035, was highly appreciated.
The parties also touched upon the preparation process for the "Azerbaijan Roadmap for SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy)". An exchange of views was held regarding preparations for organizing a side event on energy topics within the framework of the 82nd Session of UNESCAP to be held in Baku in April 2026.
During the conversation, current topics such as the activities of the "UNIDO-OIC Clean Energy Center", the development of renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan, the hydrogen strategy, interregional electricity interconnectors, and the decarbonization of the oil and gas sector were also discussed. Planned events within the framework of future cooperation with the UN were reviewed.
