Chinese Ambassador: New Deals to Boost Azerbaijan's Renewables by 1,570 MW

DECEMBER 26, 2025

Azerbaijan-China collaboration in renewable energy is advancing rapidly, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei stated at an end-of-year press briefing, as reported by Report.

Several Chinese firms have inked agreements with Azerbaijan for five new energy projects, encompassing solar photovoltaic and wind power facilities with a combined capacity of 1,570 MW. “Upon completion, these initiatives will effectively double Azerbaijan’s renewable energy output,” Mei highlighted.

She also announced that Azerbaijan’s first major wind power project—a 240 MW facility developed by Chinese companies—is slated for commissioning this year.

Additionally, private Chinese investors plan to construct a 3 GW solar panel production plant in the Alat Free Economic Zone, which the ambassador said will create substantial prospects for Azerbaijan’s high-tech manufacturing sector.
