Türkiye’s Vice President Calls for Launch of Nakhchivan Energy Corridor

DECEMBER 23, 2025

Türkiye and Azerbaijan should accelerate the implementation of the planned energy corridor through Nakhchivan to significantly strengthen bilateral energy cooperation, Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated during the 12th meeting of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye Joint Intergovernmental Commission.

According to Report, Yılmaz highlighted that despite global economic difficulties, Türkiye has maintained steady growth and strengthened its position in international markets while deepening ties with Azerbaijan.

“The world is undergoing a difficult transformation period in which energy security systems and supply chains are being reshaped. In this turbulent environment, two key actors emerge as a reliable safe haven and an unbreakable bridge between East and West: Türkiye and Azerbaijan,” Yılmaz said.

He noted that the foundations laid by the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan and Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum projects have evolved into a major guarantee of Europe’s energy security through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).

“However, our vision cannot be limited to the transportation of oil and gas via pipelines. We are not merely transit countries delivering Caspian resources to the West; we are strategic hubs that manage energy flows and ensure supply security. In this context, we must diversify our energy cooperation by incorporating renewable sources and implement the planned energy corridor through Nakhchivan as soon as possible, thereby further strengthening our energy partnership,” Yılmaz emphasized.
