Azerbaijan Solidifies Position as Key Gas Supplier to Türkiye

DECEMBER 22, 2025

Azerbaijan strengthened its standing among Türkiye’s top natural gas importers in October 2025, rising to second place for pipeline supplies.

According to Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority, as cited by Day.Az, Türkiye imported 996.80 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas in October — a modest 1.17% decline from October 2024.

This volume allowed Azerbaijan to surpass Iran and claim the second spot behind Russia in monthly pipeline deliveries. Iran supplied 820.11 million cubic meters (down 5.33% from 866.31 million the previous year), while Russia delivered approximately 1.629 billion cubic meters (compared to over 1.711 billion in October 2024).

Azerbaijan now exports natural gas to 14 countries, primarily to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the final segment of the Southern Gas Corridor. TAP’s current capacity stands at 10 billion cubic meters annually, with potential expansion to 20 billion. Following the 2021 market test, an additional 1.2 billion cubic meters per year will be added from 2026, including 1.04 billion for Italy and 0.16 billion for Albania.
