Azerbaijan and Türkiye Strengthen Energy Ties at Turkic States Ministerial Meeting

DECEMBER 11, 2025

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with his Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar on the sidelines of the 5th Meeting of Energy Ministers from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Istanbul.

The ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral energy cooperation over the past year, reviewing ongoing initiatives in hydrocarbons, renewables, and regional connectivity.

Discussions highlighted Azerbaijan’s export of 594 million kWh of electricity to Türkiye in the first ten months of 2025. Amid rising demand in Türkiye, the two sides stressed the need for new electricity interconnectors.

Key projects examined included the Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)–Türkiye Energy Junction, both directly from Nakhchivan and via the Zangezur Corridor. Opportunities for Turkish involvement in the Central Asia–Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor were also explored, with both ministers agreeing that these efforts would bolster energy collaboration across the OTS framework.
