Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld held talks to deepen bilateral energy cooperation, with representatives from Green Energy Corridor Power Company (GECO) and British firm Xlinks in attendance.
The discussions focused on expanding long-term green energy partnerships, advancing the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor, and introducing innovative solutions.
During the meeting, GECO General Director Farhad Mammadov and Xlinks Executive Director James Humphrey signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The non-binding agreement covers potential collaboration on submarine cable projects and related infrastructure, information exchange, and technical assessments. GECO is currently engaging multiple partners for the post-feasibility phase of the Green Energy Corridor.
GECO is the joint venture of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary tasked with implementing the 2022 Strategic Partnership Agreement on green energy development and transmission. Xlinks specializes in large-scale renewable energy and long-distance HVDC transmission, with its team having delivered major interconnectors such as the 720 km, 1.4 GW North Sea Link (UK–Norway) and the 765 km, 1.4 GW Viking Link (UK–Denmark).
