Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held high-level discussions with Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili in Tbilisi on the sidelines of the 11th Steering Committee Meeting for the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania-Hungary Green Energy Partnership.
The ministers reviewed the robust bilateral energy relationship built on friendship and mutual trust, emphasizing that SOCAR’s investments in Georgia now exceed $2.1 billion. From January to September 2025, Azerbaijan supplied Georgia with 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 372 million kWh of electricity.
Key topics included gas and electricity supply and transit, expansion of SOCAR’s operations in Georgia, and new joint initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation through fresh projects, with particular focus on the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor.
The ministers highlighted the parallel advancement of the Black Sea submarine cable and the broader Green Energy Corridor, stressing that enhanced coordination could maximize support from the European Union and international financial institutions. They also exchanged views on the feasibility study for an interconnector aimed at boosting electricity trade between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria.
The meeting underscored the pivotal role of energy collaboration in the Azerbaijan-Georgia strategic partnership, with Georgia remaining Azerbaijan’s top energy partner in the region.
