UK Positioned to Unlock Azerbaijan’s Renewable Energy Future, Says Lord Alderdice

OCTOBER 30, 2025

Azerbaijan holds immense untapped renewable energy resources in wind, solar, and hydropower, and the United Kingdom stands ready to play a pivotal role in realizing this potential, stated UK Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan and Central Asia, Lord John Alderdice, in an interview with Report.

Lord Alderdice highlighted BP’s pioneering Shafag solar power plant and the Sangachal terminal electrification project as a landmark example of the evolving UK-Azerbaijan energy partnership in the era of clean energy transition.

He expressed hope that more British firms will capitalize on this momentum, pursuing opportunities in green energy corridors, offshore wind and hydrogen development, grid modernization, and energy efficiency.

“The UK is home to world-class engineering, design, and consultancy firms with proven expertise in large-scale renewable projects,” Alderdice noted. “British companies excel in conceptual design, feasibility studies, and systems integration—capabilities that perfectly match Azerbaijan’s priorities as it accelerates its energy transition.”
