Azerbaijan Marks Milestone with First Solar Panel Installation at 445 MW Bilasuvar Plant

OCTOBER 03, 2025

A ceremony celebrated the installation of the first solar panel at Azerbaijan’s 445 MW Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant, a significant step in the country’s renewable energy journey. The event, attended by key officials, highlighted the project’s importance in advancing Azerbaijan’s green energy ambitions.

The Bilasuvar plant, spanning 1,400 hectares, will feature over 943,000 bifacial solar panels from China’s JA Solar, each with a capacity of 625–630 W. The panels will be installed in phases and supported by 8,131 single-axis tracking systems. Upon completion, the facility will employ automated cleaning devices for panel maintenance. The plant is slated to begin operations next year.

Attendees included Faiq Gurbatov, Head of Bilasuvar District Executive Authority; Cavid Abdullayev, Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA); Rustam Gasimov, Deputy Chairman of Azerenerji OJSC; Abdulaziz Alobaidli, Chief Operating Officer of Masdar; Afgan Isayev, SOCAR Vice President; and Elmir Musayev, General Director of SOCAR Green. Speakers emphasized that the Bilasuvar project, one of the region’s largest solar initiatives, aligns with Azerbaijan’s renewable energy goals and showcases advanced technology and significant production capacity.

During the ceremony, officials and guests symbolically signed the solar panels and participated in installing the first unit, marking a key milestone for the project.
