On September 29, Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister and Asian Development Bank (ADB) Governor for Azerbaijan, Sahil Babayev, met with a delegation led by ADB Vice-President Bhargav Dasgupta during their visit to the country, as reported by Day.Az.
Babayev praised the longstanding collaboration with the ADB, noting that joint initiatives supported by loans, grants, and technical assistance have significantly contributed to Azerbaijan’s development. He expressed confidence in the continuation of robust cooperation under the ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy for Azerbaijan for 2025–2029. Highlighting recent economic progress, Babayev emphasized advancements in the non-oil sector, including priorities such as improving water supply and sanitation systems in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, financing Baku Metro infrastructure needs, and modernizing railway lines.
Dasgupta affirmed the ADB’s commitment to deepening ties with Azerbaijan across various sectors, particularly in supporting private sector growth, and underscored the bank’s dedication to fostering long-term partnerships.
The meeting included discussions on ongoing Azerbaijan-ADB cooperation, private sector development, potential ADB support in this area, future partnership opportunities, and other topics of mutual interest.
