Middle Corridor to Serve as Vital Route for Strategic Mineral Supplies, Says Atlantic Council

SEPTEMBER 18, 2025

The Middle Corridor is poised to become a critical pathway for the supply of strategic minerals, according to a report by the U.S.-based Atlantic Council, as cited by Day.Az.

The think tank highlights Central Asia’s vast reserves of critical minerals essential for producing modern technologies, such as smartphones, electric vehicles, and semiconductors. “Amid growing global competition for rare earth elements, the Middle Corridor is gaining increasing strategic importance,” analysts noted. Expanding transport infrastructure from the South Caucasus to Central Asia will enable countries to scale up the corridor, bypassing Russia to ensure reliable supply chains and access to vital minerals for high-tech industries.

The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, is a key trade and transport link connecting Asia and Europe. Starting in China, it passes through Central Asian nations like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, crosses the Caspian Sea, and continues through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe. As a land-based alternative to longer maritime routes, it efficiently connects eastern Asia, including China, to European markets.
