Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with ACWA Power CEO Marco Arcelli to review the progress of green energy projects, according to the Ministry of Energy, as cited by Report.
The discussions focused on advancing large-scale wind energy production and transmission projects, both onshore and offshore. Progress was noted on the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron wind power plant, where 30 turbines are installed, one 220/33 kV substation is complete, and another is nearing completion. The parties also explored a joint 200 MW wind power plant project, supported by a network study to integrate additional green energy capacities for domestic use and export.
The meeting addressed electricity supply from Nakhchivan to Türkiye, with evaluations of a potential wind energy project in the region involving ACWA Power. Emphasis was placed on offshore wind energy development and Azerbaijan’s export potential. Discussions also covered the development of a Black Sea submarine cable and land-based interconnectors linking Azerbaijan to Europe via Georgia and Türkiye, highlighting the importance of interregional connectivity. Alongside power transmission, the integration of a fiber-optic component is being developed to enable data transfer.
