From January 1 to August 31, 2025, the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) transported 7.41 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe, with 6.12 billion cubic meters delivered to Italy, 0.66 billion to Greece, and 0.58 billion to Bulgaria, according to TAP AG in response to a query from Trend, as reported by Day.Az.
Since commencing commercial operations, TAP has supplied over 50 billion cubic meters of gas. In August 2025 alone, the pipeline transported 0.97 billion cubic meters, including approximately 0.8 billion to Italy, 0.08 billion to Greece, and 0.08 billion to Bulgaria, the consortium noted.
Sourcing gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea, TAP spans 877 km, connecting with the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkey-Greece border in Kipoi. The pipeline crosses northern Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea before reaching southern Italy.
TAP facilitates gas deliveries to Southeast Europe through interconnectors, notably the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB), operational since October 2022, which enhances Bulgaria’s energy security. Exit points in Greece, Albania, and Italy further enable the distribution of Azerbaijani gas across broader European markets.
