Azerbaijani natural gas is poised to play a vital role in exports to Central Europe, according to Sanja Bozinovska, North Macedonia’s Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, in an exclusive interview with Report.
Bozinovska outlined progress on a gas interconnector project with Serbia, noting that a Feasibility Study, Cost-Benefit Analysis, and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment have been completed. A Memorandum of Understanding with Serbia has been signed, and the Basic Project Design is nearing completion. The interconnector, spanning approximately 66.5 km with a capacity of 1.4 billion cubic meters per year, has attracted financing interest from several Macedonian commercial banks. The project is slated for completion within the next 3.5 years.
“As our national gas network expands, demand will continue to grow. The interconnector will facilitate gas transit to Serbia, Hungary, and further into Central Europe, with Azerbaijani gas being a key component,” the minister emphasized.
