JUNE 03, 2025

President Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed that transforming the liberated territories into a green energy zone is a central pillar of Azerbaijan’s sustainable energy strategy. In his address to participants of Baku Energy Week, the President emphasized that strengthening energy security, diversifying energy supply, and advancing green energy development remain top national priorities.

“The development of the liberated territories as a green energy zone is the main direction of Azerbaijan’s sustainable energy strategy,” President Aliyev stated. “Our successful strategic approaches have created ample opportunities for the sustainable development of Azerbaijan in the energy sector. The initiatives we are implementing also reflect our responsible attitude to environmental protection and our claim to leadership in the energy sector.”

The President highlighted that the large-scale and international scope of Baku Energy Week, which has attracted participation from companies across 80 countries, underscores Azerbaijan’s growing role in global energy cooperation. He expressed confidence that the event would contribute to deepening international dialogue, fostering new partnerships, and promoting beneficial cooperation.

In line with this vision, Azerbaijan has declared the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions as green energy zones. Significant projects are underway, including the installation of solar panels on residential and public buildings, the development of hydropower plants, and the implementation of energy-efficient technologies. These efforts aim to reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainable energy production, and support the country’s commitment to environmental protection.
