Azerbaijan announces main areas of focus of green energy cooperation with Türkiye

DECEMBER 21, 2023

Azerbaijan has started cooperation with Türkiye on the production and export of green energy, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the Azerbaijan-Türkiye Investment Forum.

According to him, Türkiye is one of main partners in our plans to create up to 10 GW of green energy power and export 5 GW of it through various routes in the coming years: “The main areas of focus of our green energy cooperation with Türkiye are our geostrategically important regions, such as Nakhchivan, Karabakh, and East Zangazur. Our cooperation with Türkiye's Baltech company on 50 MW solar power plant projects in Nakhchivan and 200 MW wind power plant projects in East Zangazur and Karabakh economic regions is a clear indication of this. Cooperation with the Baltech company is not only limited to the production of green energy, but at the same time, it covers directions such as the transmission of this energy to Türkiye and its integration into the grid.”

The minister said that in addition, Nakhchivan cooperates with international energy companies on green energy projects: “Here, too, the focus is on the export of the produced energy, mainly to Türkiye. All this coincides with the provisions of the state program for the 4-year development of Nakhchivan authored by the President of Azerbaijan, which emphasizes cooperation with Türkiye in issues such as increasing the production and export of electricity based on green sources.”
