The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) can support research carried out in Azerbaijan to realize the potential of renewable energy sources and their integration into the energy system.
The issue was discussed during negotiations between Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and the EBRD delegation headed by First Vice-President Jürgen Rigtering.
The parties expressed interest in cooperation in this sector, and the multifaceted cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EBRD was highly appreciated.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed the possibilities of expanding collaboration, as well as projects implemented with the financial support of the bank. In particular, information was provided on the processes related to the holding of auctions on renewable energy sources within the framework of EBRD projects, and the preparation of the bill “On regulation in the field of energy and utilities”.
The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation with the EBRD in the project to expand the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as other issues arising from the “Memorandum of Understanding on technical support for the development of the electricity sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan” signed in December 2022.
