Expert: Azerbaijan capable of supplying huge energy resources to Europe in next decades

JULY 26, 2023

The EU will need huge energy resources in the next fews decades and Azerbaijan is capable of supplying them, Romanian political analyst Mihai Isak told Report, adding that Azerbaijan proved itself a reliable partner in this field.

The project of the Black Sea submarine cable signed between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary is very well suited to the EU ambitions to become more energy efficient, despite the current geopolitical situation, he said.

"This project is a part of a much bigger push by the European Union to secure access to energy resources for the next few decades," the expert noted.

He added that this kind of partnership will become the cornerstone of Romania energy policy in the future.

The expert emphasized that after the liberation by the Azerbaijani army of Karabakh and other regions occupied by Armenians, the Caucasus region has become more secure and allows the EU and Baku to forge new ties.

"Baku proved itself capable of offering security guarantees to implement this agreement," he said.

The analyst noted that Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary have the ambition to become an energy hub for the rest of the EU, Ukraine and the Western Balkans.

"So the fact that these countries cooperate in this project is a proof of its importance. Let us hope that political ambitions will be put aside in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, and this project will receive the full support it needs to pe implemented," he said.
