Gas shortage is brewing in Kazakhstan, Deputy Energy Minister Zhandos Nurmaganbetov said at a briefing in the Senate.
He noted that the ministry is solving the issues of regulating the wholesale and retail gas prices, so that it would be interesting for producers to extract gas for the domestic market.
“One should admit that we have a deficit brewing. The norm that we propose is aimed at ensuring that we don’t allow a deficit in individual regions by our clumsy actions,” the deputy minister said.
He noted that the draft law “On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the regulation of liquefied gas circulation and housing and communal services” considered by the senators on June 22, concerns the regulation of the domestic market.
“This is good for consumers, but at the same time it is necessary for it to be good for producers as well,” Nurmaganbetov said.
He spoke about the government’s decisions on wholesale and retail gas prices, as well as measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of Kazakh people with gas.
The deputy minister said that the Energy Ministry signed a number of contracts with large gas producing enterprises.
“Last year, an increase in consumption by 400 cubic meters per hour was recorded, the growth occurred in a short period. We see that production volumes in Kazakhstan are not enough. Now the issue is being regulated. Specifically, there are large enterprises with which we signed contracts,” he said.
