Türkiye soon to commission biggest solar power plant in Europe

On May 5, the largest solar power plant (SPP) in Europe will be launched in Turkish Konya province. SPP Karapinar with a capacity of 1,350 MW is owned by Kalyon Energy, Report informs referring to Anadolu Agency.

The SPP covers an area of 20 million square meters. Installation work at the site of the solar power plant started in January 2020.

With the withdrawal to full capacity, SPP Karapinar will increase the share of installed capacity of solar energy in Türkiye by 20%. The solar power plant consists of 3,256,038 solar panels manufactured by Kalyon Fotovoltaik.

The British government provided active financial support for the project. Its total cost is estimated at $1 billion. A significant share of this amount was allocated by the British export credit agency UKEF.

The solar power plant will produce 3 billion kW of electricity annually. The new solar power plant will meet the electricity needs of about 2 million people.

In addition, the power plant will prevent the release of 2 million tons of harmful substances into the environment.
