OCTOBER 20, 2022

Shafag (Sunrise) solar power plant (SPP), planned to be built by BP in Jabrayil district, is expected to be put into operation in 2024, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said in his article published in an official newspaper on the occasion of October 20 - the Energy Workers' Day.

According to him, currently, negotiations are underway on the construction of a 240 MW solar power plant, which is expected to produce approximately 500 million kWh of electricity per year: "The engineering, design, and financial issues are expected to be finalized by the end of this year. The construction of the plant is planned to commence in 2023, be put into operation in 2024".

The minister said that this project is planned to implement a business model that involves the virtual transfer of electricity: "This model includes a mechanism that is productive for both the Shafag Project and the Sangachal terminal on the production and consumption of electricity and will contribute to decarbonization. In other words, "green energy" produced in Karabakh will be transferred to Absheron, as a result, natural gas used for electricity in Sangachal will be saved."
