FEBRUARY 11, 2022

"Huge work is being done today to fully launch renewable energy, and we see the results of this work. What do we see? First of all, foreign companies, large companies are investing in this area," President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with AZERTAC.

"Last month, a groundbreaking ceremony was held under a contract signed between Azerbaijan and Acwa Power, one of the largest companies in the field, and a 240-megawatt wind farm is to be commissioned next year. BP is currently building a solar power plant in Jabrayil with a capacity of more than 200 megawatts. Negotiations are underway with Masdar of the United Arab Emirates for the construction of a solar power plant. Both projects have a capacity of about 400-450 megawatts. In addition to the 240 megawatt farm built by Acwa Power, it is planned to build a 280-megawatt power plant in the Khudafarin and Maiden Tower water reservoirs jointly with Iran. Half of that capacity will reach us, which will be an additional 140 megawatts. Azerenergy has its 50-megawatt wind power plant, and four hydropower plants were reconstructed on the liberated lands last year in Gulabird, Sugovushan-1, Sugovushan-2, and the one the Lev River in Kalbajar, and the construction and completion of construction of five hydroelectric power plants are planned in the liberated territories this year," the head of state said.
